Navy wants to increase use of sonar-emitting buoys

The Navy wants to deploy up to 720 floats at least 12 nautical miles off the coast of Washington, Oregon and Northern California. Device, a length of about 3 feet and 6 inches in diameter, send sonar signals water so crews can train to detect submarines.

Navy test range is home to endangered whales such as orcas, humpback and blue, as well as seals, sea lions and dolphins. But critics say that the noise from the sonar can harass and kill whales and other marine life. They fear navy expands exercises without increasing efforts to reduce the impact.

An alternative to the Navy offers 30 bombing exercises per year, as well as increasing the missile exercises air-to-surface and anti-submarine activity tracking that use sonar. He is accepting comments through Feb. 2 on its revised proposal.

It has been proven that sonar messes with aquatic animal's ability to navigate - STOP USING IT ALL TOGETHER AND COME UP WITH A LESS HARMFUL ALTERNATIVE

the sonar buoys harm anything, or is it just conjecture? With no real proof the buoys should go in. If there is proof, then it has to be decided if the damage is worth the use of the buoys. It's basic risk assessment.

Thank You NY vendors

There I was enjoying my shrink cocktail having ordered swordfish thinking how the poor sea creators would be able to live with the sonar buoys making the racket.
