The entire world needs to get serious about population control. We have people, usually poor and stupid people, breeding out of control. They're having kids that they can afford. That's happening in our country, however it's also happening on a global scale. We're having more people than we can support. GM food is in direct response to that fact. They have to GM these plants/food to make sure nothing unexpected happens to it between now and harvest time because if something does happen millions of people could potentially starve.
Now that all that is out of the way, this makes absolutely no sense to me. Maybe if apples were the size of my truck I might understand this but apples are very small. You're not going to feed yourself for a week on 1 apple so why do you need it to stay fresh any longer than normal after you cut it? I might not like all the other GM stuff but at least that stuff makes sense to me, this doesn't however.
Also they already have stuff that helps slow the browning of apples after they're cut........it's call packaging. You can can them, Ziploc them, vacuum seal them, freeze them and a whole bunch of other things to them. I'm left scratching my head on this one.
