This is the first documented case of any animal, using insulin poison, Safavi said. Moreover, fish insulin resembles insulin, making it an effective tool against the preferred extraction snails. When the researchers injected insulin in zebrafish, the fish became less active in less than a minute, even if the fish began experiments with blood sugar levels.

Cone snails that use small harpoon spear their prey with a neurotoxin not be used as weapons of insulin. But two species geographusand Cone Cone Tulip, use insulin in the "nirvana clique" of toxins that they release into the water to help them to disorient and catch fish, the researchers found.

Nature never ceases to amaze me! Also, I think "Venomous Cone Snail" is the coolest name I have ever heard for an animal since "Flying Squirrel".

When I was diagnosed as a diabetic, the airport security guard wouldn’t let me taken my syringes and vials onto the plane. They said that it was a weapon and I could kill someone by injecting them with insulin. I guess he was right after all!
